Correct filter selection - Which filter cartridge is the right one? Having a choice often means having a dilemma.
We are often asked which filter cartridge is actually the right one.
Basically, all the following Carbonit filter cartridges fit into all Carbonit Sanuno, Vario, and DUO filter housings due to their design. However, choosing the right Carbonit filter cartridge is indeed crucial for optimal drinking water quality. Carbonit filter cartridges differ from other available filter cartridges mainly due to two decisive filter properties.
On the one hand, the sieving effect of the filter cartridge ensures purity for undissolved substances such as suspended solids, sediments, germs, and bacteria. This "sieve" retains all particles and contaminants larger than the respective pore size (similar to a sieve) and is specified in nanometers (nm).
On the other hand, dissolved contaminants (polar pesticides, residues from agriculture, chlorine, medication residues, and much more) are removed by the adsorption effect of activated carbon. The ability to adsorb these contaminants is becoming increasingly important due to rising environmental pollution. This is called adsorptive retention. The adsorptive retention rate (AAR) indicates how high the retention is compared to the Carbonit NFP Premium filter cartridge.
Conclusion:
The standard filter cartridge Carbonit NFP Premium is the optimal combination of sieving effect and adsorption effect and is ideally suited for filtering drinking water. Its high content of activated carbon and the low water flow ensure the safe removal of all dissolved contaminants. As a rule, the Carbonit NFP Premium filter cartridge should therefore be used.
However, since the flow rate is limited to about 2 liters per minute, the Carbonit NFP Premium filter cartridge is only suitable for filter systems that distinguish between filtered water and utility water (Sanuno or Vario/DUO with separate fittings for filtered water or 3-way fittings). If you have installed a Carbonit drinking water filter directly in the cold water line, i.e. filtering all cold water, you need a faster flow rate. For this purpose, you will find a variety of filter cartridges that combine a membrane for the sieving effect and activated carbon for adsorptive retention, thus allowing faster flow.
In some cases, e.g. with low water pressure or high contamination, the use of a combination filter cartridge is usually indispensable. We are happy to advise you individually on this.
