In our online shop, you can buy oil separators and bilge cleaners in various sizes. This way, you protect your boat from pollution and comply with legal requirements. Surely you will find the right model for your boat in the wide range.
Buy oil separators for sport boats, yachts, and larger ships
Oil separators are necessary for the use of a boat, yacht, or ships. Because impurities quickly accumulate in the bilge under the boat's floor. In our online shop, high-quality oil separators are available for purchase. The bilge pump ensures that the water is continuously pumped out, but the water must first be filtered because legal requirements regarding water discharge into waters must be met. The oil separator removes impurities such as dirt or oil from the water and is therefore an absolute must-have product for every boat owner.
Buying oil separators for boats: These guidelines you must observe
In the bilge, leaked water (in wooden ships) or condensate (for example from air conditioners) collects. There it mixes with machine oil, gear oil, fuel, soot, metal abrasion, and other substances present there. This creates a far from environmentally friendly mixture that should never enter open waters. Discharge into waters is strictly regulated, as bilge water is one of the main causes of water pollution – and thus damage to animal and plant life. Discharge into water is subject to Resolution MEPC 107(49) of the International Maritime Organization. This stipulates that within the twelve nautical mile zone, only water with an oil content of a maximum of 15 ppm may be discharged into waters. In water protection areas, only 5 ppm are allowed.
To meet these requirements, you should buy an oil separator. According to a sports directive of the European Union for sport boats, this is even mandatory and is part of the safety equipment on board. This prevents damage to electrical and electronic components such as batteries and safely disposes of unnecessary water without heavily polluting the waters.
The function of the bilge pump filter/bilge water filter
The oil separators you can buy from us are also called bilge water filters and use the chemical and physical properties of various liquids and their densities. This way, oil and gasoline are separated from water and arranged in layers according to their density. The electrical and polar properties of water compared to the nonpolar fat molecules prevent the two liquids from mixing. As a result, lighter liquids such as fuel and oils can be removed by floating up and separation in wastewater treatment plants and bilge filters.
The oil separator relies on a material developed and patented in Germany. This attracts oil molecules and binds them permanently. About 100 grams of filter material in the filter cartridge binds about 0.665 liters of oil and thus meets the DEKRA standard. Such a bilge filter can hold the average oil amount of about 12,500 liters of water and is firmly installed in the boat's bilge. It is located between the bilge pump and the onboard water outlet. When a cartridge is full, it must be disposed of properly. The matching cartridges for oil separators as well as additional accessories can also be purchased in our online shop. How often the cartridge needs to be changed depends on the size of the boat and the filter.
An alternative to the oil separator: wax wool as a super weapon against oil and dirt
If you want to buy an effective product in addition to the oil separator, a new synthetic wax is also recommended. This was discovered by chance and can be used especially as a bilge filter on sports boats. The wax wool is water-repellent and only absorbs pollutants in the water. The effectiveness of the wax lies in its high and rapid adsorption capacity, allowing the material to absorb 6.55 times its own weight in chemicals. The fact that it can float even when fully saturated makes the DEKRA-tested material nearly unbeatable as an oil absorbent. The filter wool can also be removed without residue and easily recycled.
